‘Forget Paris,’ Trump said, before retreating to his dark place

We held an “emergency rally” in the sanctuary city of Syracuse, NY, today, less than two hours after the 45th president of the United States pulled the world’s biggest polluter out of the Paris climate agreement.

As one speaker so succinctly put it, the candidate who claimed he wanted to put America first just put us last.

As unconscionable — and politically unwise — as this action was, we will survive it. He won’t. The scowling, miserable tweeter-in-chief’s latest exercise in disregarding facts, reality, decency, normality, etc. will only serve to do him in, politically.

He may realize this some day soon at 3 a.m., when we will likely see further evidence of his inner turmoil and intellectual deficiencies in 140 characters or less.

Fast forward to 2021: Mar-A-Lago is under water. A new American president is healing diplomatic rifts, putting rational policies into place, acting like an adult. And we can take a deep breath.

As we forfeit a leadership role in the world the vacuum we create will be filled by China.

I was listening to NPR a couple of days ago. The person being interviewed said he was hopeful that it wouldn’t be a total disaster because a lot of companies have already invested in becoming greener and would probably continue that way. And nobody except the Trumpists believe that large-scale manufacturing will be returning to the US. Let’s hope that we don’t doom the planet before we get a real leader.

Absolutely. By bailing from the Paris agreement, he unintentionally has rallied a coalition of activists, scientists and corporations to keep fighting for greener energy and policies that reflect that. Trump is fooling no one but his “base,” which he really doesn’t care about. It’s all part of some cockamamie “deal” that he has to “win.” He makes no sense.

This drama with Trump is what hits me the hardest. Our planet is our life force, it’s up to us to protect what we have!

My brother and sister in law are in France. I hope they will come back safely and will find people sympathetic to our country, Jim. They’re taking students from a college to different places like Dunkirk, Normandy, Paris and Cluny. Take care! ~Robin
