“Irish Investigations” primarily is about people who have left an impression on me — people whose stories should not be lost.
I might write about someone I knew years ago and lost track of, or someone I just met the other day. Or someone whom I’ve known long enough to have a good handle on what makes them tick.
On occasion, I’ll write about a chance encounter, an idea, a place, a revelation — whatever happens to fire the synapses on a given day. As a longtime distance runner, I’ll sometimes write about running and runners. They’re the healthiest people I know, in every sense of the word.
Learning and discovering things is how I feel alive and stay alive. A sense of wonder and curiosity need not be forsaken just because we’ve outlasted childhood.
